Hallow(IN) or Hell-No (OUT)

My insight into Halloween

My daughter was so excited since last night. She said she decorated a spooky cardboard house at her daycare and all her friends were going to celebrate Halloween the next day. I can definitely say she was all for the fun with zero facts on what Halloween is all about

As a Christian, I choose not to participate in any Halloween activity. For me, I find no fun or any sense in getting my child dressed up as a monster, fake blood dripping from her mouth and scaring people away with a ‘trick or treat ‘.

Trust me, I have had dilemma’s in the past and also dressed up my daughter as a fairy for her previous Halloween day at daycare , thinking if she is a fairy then it should be NO problem. But this year, I had a conviction and I took my stand

I had a ( atleast tried to ) have a conversation with my daughter that as Christians we don’t associate with anything dark or spooky stuff as we believe in light and everlasting Hope. Well, as you know it was hard for her little mind to comprehend what I was trying to tell her. So I took advantage of something that she loves to do and we made a deal, swap the Halloween party for a day spent with her grandpa , where she can have lots of play and most importantly watch Dory ( even if it is a 1000th time ). She probably might be ready for a more serious conversation next year. At the end of the day, she told me she agreed with me that there are much more positive things to celebrate about than celebrate Halloween which makes no sense. For her playing with grandpa and watching a movie with grandpa was a massive win.

What I am trying to get across here is , as a parent we have the BIG responsibility of teaching our kids to discern the right way from the wrong. With younger kids, it’s our responsibility to take a decision on their behalf when they are too young to make a choice themselves. We might have a 1000 reasons to celebrate Halloween and twist it to suit our opinions thinking that ‘my child is not going to turn up like that but it’s just a days fun and lots of chocolates ‘ but deep down it has a lasting impression on the child’s heart and could send a wrong message for a life time . Children are like clay, they become what we shape them into

Whenever I have a dilemma I run my thoughts through this Bible verse Phil 4:8-9

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse

Does Hallow(IN) fulfill Gods way of living life ?  Think for yourself , then you will agree with me that it’s Hell-No(OUT)

May God give you the discernment when making choices for your children and the boldness to stand out from the crowd. Sometimes it’s best to stand alone than to follow a senseless crowd

Stay Blessed in Him💞
