As we enter Holy Week, Palm Sunday marks a pivotal moment in the story of our salvation. It’s more than just children waving palm branches or reading the familiar passage from the Gospels. It is a day of both triumph and tension—when Jesus enters Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey, declaring a kingdom not of this world.
The people shouted,
“Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13)
They laid their cloaks and palm branches on the road, welcoming Jesus as a king. But what kind of king were they expecting? Many hoped for a political liberator, someone who would overthrow Roman rule. Few understood that Jesus had come to bring a much deeper freedom—the kind that only comes through the cross.
Palm Sunday invites us to reflect on our expectations of Jesus. Do we follow Him only when the road is paved with praise? Or are we willing to follow Him through the garden, the trial, and the cross?
This week, may we walk intentionally with Christ. Let’s not rush to Easter without first sitting in the weight of the week that changed everything. Let’s listen to His words, watch His sacrifice, and remember: the King who entered Jerusalem in humility is the same King who conquered death in glory.
Reflection Questions:
1. What do the palm branches symbolize for you personally?
2. In what ways have you misunderstood or underestimated Jesus’ mission in your own life?
3. How can you walk more closely with Christ during this Holy Week?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, as we remember Your triumphal entry, help us to see You clearly—not just as a momentary savior, but as our eternal King. Teach us to follow You not just when it’s easy, but when the path is hard. Prepare our hearts this Holy Week to fully grasp the depth of Your love and the sacrifice You made for us.
In Jesus Name
Amen
