Dealing with negative thoughts and hurt feelings from others
Last week, I had a difficult situation when a close family member spoke things of me which should not have been spoken without being analysed. I must admit, when I came to know of that, it didn’t take long for me to soak into those words spoken about me and dwell in the negativity for 3 full days.
After nearly 3 days, yes 3 full days when I could no longer handle it, I finally went to the Lord in prayer and cried my heart out asking the question as always ‘WHY Lord ‘? . I got back an answer ‘ WHAT ?’ As if the Lord was not aware what I was talking about
I continued praying and He showed me the picture of a sponge. And the message was strong to me ‘ DON’T be like that sponge that obsorbs everything that comes its way ‘ . God was basically telling me the situation I got into right now was not because of Him. I am in this situation because of my thinking , the way I have allowed my mind to work during that time and most importantly not bringing it to God and trying to sort it out on my own.
When I sat down to meditate he behaviour of sponge,I realised that it literally absorbs everything that is thrown on it. And gradually it becomes heavy as it absorbs everything that comes its way. Sometimes we are like that sponge. We allow everyone’s thoughts about us to influence us. We allow people’s opinions to define us. We let other’s feelings to direct us. We soak into ‘ what will people think, he think, she think ‘ and walk the ‘people-pleaser’ journey. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying live like no-one cares, discipline should not be rebuked. But even discipline should be for building a person up and done in private. If any one’s thoughts / words are tearing you down instead of being constructive in your life, it’s time now to walk away from that companionship.
I believe God is telling you to take a decision deliberately to attempt and STOP BEING A SPONGE. Your life is a gift from God. God created you beautifully and wonderfully (Psalm 139:14 ). You are the apple of His eye ( Zechariah 2:8 )and He loves you very dearly that He gave His only son to die for you ( John 3:16 ) . God has great plans for your life to prosper you , give you hope and a future ( Jeremiah 29:11 ). Kick the devil of negative thoughts about yourself from your mind and keep meditating on these verses on how precious you are to our Almighty God. You need to know your worth and value in Him to negate those negative thoughts that constantly keep attacking you.
The heavier the sponge, the more it is difficult to handle on it own. The battling negative thoughts, hurts from the past , emotional wounds , can be only squeezed out of your life ( just like the contents from the heavy sponge to make it light ) ONLY when they are brought, laid down and surrendered to God. God wants you to know the truth that He loves you and He is able to save you. That truth will set you free and empower you with the grace to live your life God’s way.
God calls you in Matthew 11:28-30
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Be influenced by God’s Words
His Word always builds, always restores and always heals
Dear God,
As I come to your altar, I lay down all my emotional wounds , past hurts, unforgiveness to You Lord. Please repair my wounds and heal my heart .Give me a brand new heart filled with love, peace, compassion and grace to forgive those who hurt me. Help me to follow your footsteps.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Stay Blessed In Him💞
It’s true, we are like sponges, and it begins in infancy, but as we age we get to choose what to soak up.

That’s very true @letitgocoach !! And we make better choices when those decisions are rooted in the truth of His Word and a deep realisation that He loves us no matter what, even when we messed up. We then choose to soak up the things that build us in the right way and learn to let go off things that tear us down . Gods plans for our lives always intended to build us , strengthen and empower us and never the other way around. Appreciate your time and valuable input !

Be a world sponge! What if gods word becomes irrational, promote malevolence and the taking of life for no reason! Should you stand by his side if you are innocent and protecting, serving and mastering your world! Or as a strong daughter set him by his own words and standards! If the devil getting them by their signatures is just! Then surely God has become malevolent in his ways and requires a temperance to give his sons and daughters chance to save their children and their worlds!
If this is the case you then become set by the balance; be passive but set the parameters to protect innocents until all becomes right!
Who defines god other than those books and the language and guidance set?

Thank you for your time and valuable input here ! Appreciate it !
I see your compassionate heart for the innocent and the vulnerable. The truth is God’s Word has never proved to be irrational or intended to promote malevolence. Jesus is not a hostile God. John 3:16 when He sent His own son to die for our sins how can He be a God who schemes to take lives . Every Word of God written is God breathed. If let’s say for arguments sake, it is just a book…. “Just a book” .. will have no power to change lives for good, will have no way to bring hope to people that just read it and provide guidance to people who walk by it . Millions continue to be transformed by the Bible. We as believers of Jesus set the standards which is so different to the world’s standards . I do agree with you that there are infinite opinions about God and tons of books about Jesus written by people of this age. Often these misunderstandings come with the wrong interpretation of things around us. Hence I always make it a point in my life to go to the source , Jesus to rule out if that is true or not. God has given us the discernment to separate chaff from the wheat. Through His Word and close fellowship with Him, He gives us strategies to protect the innocent, stand up for the vulnerable and help those in need
