In our walk with God, transformation is a constant process. Yet, for true revival to take place, we must first make space. Space to allow God to work deeply within us. Old patterns, habits, and mindsets must be cleared away so that the new things He desires to do can take root. Without clearing the weeds from our hearts, we cannot expect to see the blooming garden of His work in our lives.
The Lord’s work in us is like a gardener tending to a garden. A gardener cannot expect a flourishing garden without pulling out the weeds and dead plants that choke the life from the soil. In the same way, God cannot bring about lasting change in our hearts if we cling to the old things, the sin, the distractions, the insecurities, or the fears that fill the spaces in our lives. He wants to do something new, but He needs the room to do so.

Think about Anna’s story. For years, she struggled with bitterness. She’d been hurt by others, and the anger from her past continued to surface in her relationships. Her heart was full of resentment and unforgiveness, and there was little room for peace or joy. But as she spent time in prayer, God began to show her that she needed to release the bitterness she was holding onto. She realized that, for God to heal her heart, she had to let go of the pain of the past and allow Him to make room for something new. It was difficult, but as she surrendered her bitterness to God, He began to replace it with a peace that she could not have imagined before.
Anna’s experience shows us that revival begins when we give God the space to remove the old things that hold us back. When we make space for His transformative work, He fills us with a newness of life that leads to lasting change.
Take a look at Isaiah 43:18-19. This passage is a reminder that God is always at work, bringing about renewal. But the key to seeing that renewal is found in our willingness to forget the former things. Our past mistakes, regrets, and even the comfort of old habits can often become the very things that prevent God from moving powerfully in our lives. We must actively make room for the new things He is doing.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland – Isaiah 43:18-19
Prayer:
Lord, I come to You today with a willing heart. I recognize that there are areas of my life where I’ve held onto old things—hurts, fears, sins, and patterns that no longer serve me. I ask You to help me clear away the weeds and distractions, making room for the new thing You want to do in my life. I surrender my past to You and choose to trust that Your plans for me are better than what I’ve known before. Fill the space in my heart with Your peace, Your joy, and Your love. Help me to walk in the newness You are bringing, and guide me as I make room for the transformation You desire.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen
