In the Middle of the Mess

Just a normal Saturday—running errands, then sinking into the couch with a warm cup of coffee, staring blankly at the TV. Just a few hours ago, our home was a mess. Things were scattered everywhere after a busy Friday night—the usual end-of-week chaos. Laundry piled up. Dishes waiting. To-do list looming.

In the middle of the mess, I found myself overwhelmed, wondering how on earth I was going to get it all done and find rest today. I stressed over where to even begin. It took me a while to start, because I spent so long just deciding which task to tackle first.

In the middle of the mess…

I was listening to worship music when I felt a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit. He whispered, “There’s never a perfect time. There is a time for everything, yes—but not always the right time. What you do in the moment is what matters.”

Don’t wait for the “right” opportunity.

Don’t wait for the “right” time.

It may never come the way you expect.

Then, as if to drive the message home with a little humor, He reminded me of the song my daughter has been singing non-stop around the house. She’s preparing for her upcoming audition, and these lines stuck with me:

“And when will my life begin?”

If you’re one of those asking God, “When will my life begin?”—especially in the middle of your own mess—here’s what I believe He wants to remind you:

Your life has already begun.

The mess? It’s part of His plan.

And if you invite Him into it, He will help clean it up.

Biblical Reminder: The Widow with the Jar of Oil (2 Kings 4:1–7)

In 2 Kings 4, a widow was drowning in debt and desperation. She cried out to the prophet Elisha for help, and all she had was a small jar of oil. It must have felt like nothing in the middle of her mess. But God didn’t wait for her to have everything together. He started in the middle of the mess.

She obeyed, poured out what little she had—and God multiplied it.

Sometimes, what we see as a mess, God sees as the starting point of a miracle.

Scripture to Hold Onto:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

A Simple Prayer:

Lord,

In the middle of my mess, remind me that You are near.

Help me not to wait for perfect conditions before I move.

Show me how to trust You with what I have, even when it feels small.

Thank You for turning messes into miracles.

Help me to believe that my life has already begun—in You.

Amen.

Blessings – In Him
