You HEM me in behind and before, and You lay Your hand upon me
As per Wikipedia definition , ‘a HEM in sewing is a garment finishing method, where the edge of a piece of cloth is folded narrowly and sewn to prevent unravelling of the fabric’
In that context , it amazes me on how the King of the Universe would go before His children ,follow His children and place His hand of blessing His children’s lives, just to make sure we are OK. Of all things in the world, He chooses to HEM us, to enclose us in His arms just to keep us all in one piece at all times, especially during those rough times.
When life hits hard, it’s sometimes hard to accept the fact that God is fair. Feelings take over facts and we start questioning God’s righteousness based on our life’s experiences and circumstances. Most often it happens that when things go well, we feel the presence of God all over our lives. But when life hits a rough patch, then comes the reality check. It’s most often in those darkest valleys we encounter God and experience the most amazing taste of His love and grace for our lives.
As a parent when my toddler was really young and just started walking, I used a backpack leash to help my daughter walk. Whilst I really wanted to encourage her in exploring her walking experience in public, I also made arrangements for her safety. I used this harness on her backpack and let her walk in the front while I held on to the leash. My daughter used to very excited that she was walking on her own but little did she know that there is her mother at her back protecting her from behind. When she tried to run away in the shopping centre due to excitement , I just pull the leash gently a little bit backward so she comes close to me and stays safe. Yes, that definitely did upset her but in addition to giving her own space, providing a safe environment to explore is also part of my parental responsibility. I love my daughter too much to see her hurt.
As our Heavenly Father, that’s how God takes care of us. Sometimes we don’t even know why there is a leash in the midst of our lives that is stopping us from moving forward. That promotion which is so very close but nothing seems to happen, that loan which is almost approved but not really signed off, that interview which you thought you were successful but no updates yet could be some of the potential leashes you are facing in your life currently. We just want to run our lives all by ourselves, in the most fast forward way in nano second speed. But God has a invisible leash on all our lives .. not to control us but for our well being and safety.
God wants to encourage you and wants you to know that He has got it all under control. He wants you to know that He is protecting you from behind, from all things past. He wants you to know that He is protecting you from the forefront too, making sure you are safe and sound. He knows your past, He knows your present and He also knows your future. There is nothing hidden in our lives from His sight.
Today, take heart and choose to place your trust in God for whatever mountain you are facing. Be assured in God’s love for your life. Be assured in God’s protection over your life. He loves you too much to see you suffer.
Dear God Jesus,
Please forgive for my doubt. As I choose to place my trust in You, help me to see through Your eyes Your plans for my life and give me the strength to live life Your way with all the blessed assurance you have provided me today.
