Lent – Day 20 – Love OVERCOMES Fear

This is a picture of my toddler daughter and my dad having fun in a playground. She wanted my dad to throw her up high in the air and when she came down she wanted him to catch her and then throw her AGAIN. She was so excited and so thrilled when she went high in the air. Every time she came down she said ‘ Higher Thatha ( Grandpa ) , Higher !

Normally she is afraid of heights that she will need someone to hold her hand when walking on a higher ground. What surprised me was her fear was overcome by the trust she had in my dad, that she let him throw her in the air, just like that. And when she went up in the air, she was not scared even for one second that my dad will not catch her or what if he missed the catch, but rather she was enjoying that moment , which proved her COMPLETE trust in her grandpa and his love for her. She based her moment not on her thinking but rather on her grandpa’s love for her.

I believe our trust in God should be a child like faith like this. Not manipulative or calculative, but a complete confidence that He will catch us no matter how deep or how ugly we fall or stoop in our lives.  And that’s exactly what God promises in His Word

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6So we say with confidence, “The LORD is my helper; I will not be afraid.

Hebrews 13:6

We had one of the best children’s evangelist Sean W Smith bring the message of Cross to our church last Sunday. He emphasised the importance of NOT dealing with God using our logical reasoning and thinking but TRUST God for who He is

To reach the full potential of God’s plan and live the abundant life He has for us, its crucial to let go of our plan’s and let God be God.  There is no room in love for fear

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

My prayer for you today is that you CHOOSE to SOAR in your life, rise above all your fears, above all your struggles , above all your difficulties JUST by knowing that He loves you, He will never let you fail,  He is always there to catch you whenever you all and STILL love you the same way like He has loved you always.

The more we learn to TRUST God, the more we will learn to enjoy and cherish His presence EVEN during those rocky bumpy roads of our lives. May you CHOOSE LOVE over fear today

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

Lent – Day 19 – Let there be LIGHT

Genesis 1 always amazes me, the wondrous way that God created this world. In the Beginning when God created the Heavens and Earth, He saw that the earth was empty, formless and full of darkness

The first thing God did was to SPEAK to CREATE light and DESTROY darkness

 And God SAID, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

God saw that the light was good, and He SEPARATED the light from the darkness

Gen 1:3-4

One tiny spark of light is enough to banish the darkness. One tiny spark of light is sufficient to give direction for the way ahead

Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space.  It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe.  It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished

Jesus calls Himself the light of the world and encourages us to follow Him to have a life filled with light. The Word of God says that when the light shines in the darkness, the darkness could not overcome it.

He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”

John 8:12

Jesus’s life proclaims one message . That God is light and He wants us out of our darkness

As John puts it in 1 John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you:

God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all

1 John 1:5

As John rightly puts it in His Word about the crisis we all are in this day and age

This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.

John 3:19-21

Today, in this lent season as we seek God, I believe God is encouraging us to do 2 things

Firstly, to SEPARATE ourselves from the darkness ( Run from temptation ) and

Secondly,  To SPEAK light into our dark situations ( Stand on the promises of God )

How does that happen ? Firstly by acknowledging our sins . When we confront our fears and surrender them before God humbly, the light of God takes over and that is the beginning stage of the healing process from within our souls.

My sin I acknowledged to You; my iniquity I did not hide. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin!”

Palms 32: 5

 

God’s light is gracious enough to save, powerful enough to heal and strong enough to deliver. Let’s choose to be in His light. Let’s make David’s prayer from his Psalm ours today

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me

Psalm 51:10-12

Lent – Day 17 – Love and Discipline go hand in hand

My 4.5 year old daughter is at a stage where she does not like to hear the word ‘NO’.

She tries to convince me to have her way the way she wants, in a nice gentle way and with sweet words. She has developed a habit of saying ‘BUT ‘. A classic example ‘ yes, momma I know I should not have chocolates at night BUT can I please have it and I will brush my teeth before bed ‘

When my parenting is firm with a clear NO , she would tell me ‘ I am not happy with you momma’ . And when she has calmed down, we would sit down for a chat and I would tell her ‘ Hannah, I did not like the way you behaved’ , for which she would say’ I am sorry momma BUT momma I know you love me even when I am not nice to you or even when you are angry at me ‘ . She has so much confidence in momma’s love for her that she has realised that when momma disciplines, even though she does not like it , it is for her own good. And she has the confidence that me knowing her weaknesses is not going to make me love her any less. She believes and knows that momma loves her no matter what, even when she is naughty.

Such is the child like confidence we need to develop in our Father’s love for us. The Lord disciplines those He loves . God embraces us just the way we are and just like a clay in the potter’s hand, He moulds us with corrections to our lives so we can be the best of what He created us to be

My dear child, don’t shrug off God’s discipline,
But don’t be crushed by it either.
It’s the child he loves that He disciplines;
The child he embraces, he also corrects

Hebrews 12:6

We love to live the abundant life the Lord has intended for us and blessed us with. We try to live our lives according to the Word and His instructions. Disciplining is a part of all this training where God teaches us to discern the good and the bad so we can be God’s best. We always love a great outcome, without having to work hard for it. God Word encourages us not to resent His discipline

But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline;
Don’t sulk under his loving correction.
It’s the child he loves that God corrects;
A father’s delight is behind all this

Proverbs 3:9-12

And He goes on to say in Hebrews 12:9-11 that God is doing the best for us and though discipline is not much fun, it does pay off in God’s kingdom

 

God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best. At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God

Hebrews 12:9-11

My prayer for you today is as you learn to allow God into areas where He is knocking your door to correct you, help discipline you for your own good, may you rest in the assurance that God’s love is greater than anyone else’s that you might have ever experienced on this earth and know deep in your heart that God is trust worthy of your confidence as He laid His life for YOU so you can have an abundant eternal life.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
Don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
He’s the one who will keep you on track

Proverbs 3:5-6

He is for you, He is with you and will always guide you.

Lent – Day 16 – FAITH requires ACTION

What we believe becomes who we are. It reflects in all aspects of our character, behaviour, relationships and the way we live our lives .

God encourages us through His Word to have faith that is filled with action, out of love and reverence for God. And not merely do God talks without any God love in it. He calls it utter nonsense when someone does that

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?

James 2:14-17

One thing that stands out among the biblical heroes mentioned in the Bible is the unshakeable faith they had in their God, their Father AND  what they did about their faith in their practical lives. They knew that it was impossible to please God without faith. They had the confidence in what they hoped for and assurance in what they do not see.

In the world’s eyes ,Noah appeared foolish when he started building the ark but Noah believed in what God said and put his faith to action. He was not a people pleaser rather a God pleaser. Noah was not afraid to stand out as he trusted in God’s plan . He built the ark just the way God had instructed him and saved his family

By faith, Noah built a ship in the middle of dry land. He was warned about something he couldn’t see, and acted on what he was told. The result? His family was saved. His act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God

Hebrews 11:7

Abraham put to action his extraordinary, unwavering belief in God when God told him to travel to an unknown place and God did not tell him where he was going.

Abraham said yes to God’s call to travel to an unknown place that would become his home. When he left he had no idea where he was going. By an act of faith he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise. Abraham did it by keeping his eye on an unseen city with real, eternal foundations—the City designed and built by God. evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God

Hebrews 11:8

Hebrews 11 lists all the biblical heroes that put their faith to action, trusting God one step at a time in their unknown journey. They had complete confidence that even though they have no idea about how their journey will end, they trusted in His promises and had unwavering faith that when God ordains their steps there is nothing to be afraid of or worried about . They looked to God for help and just followed what God had asked them to do. They put their faith to action.

For the reflection part, how does that ‘faith in action’ work for you and me in our practical lives ? Ephesians 5:1-2 encourages us to ‘wake up from our sleep’

Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that

Ephesians 5:1-2

We all have mountains in our own private battles that we are struggling with. Of course, we all have been praying for that new job, for that life partner, for that new home , for that new car, for that intimacy with God. Other than praying, are we doing anything about it ? Any ACTION to co-operate with God for His promises to come true in our lives ?

I am a strong believer in prayer and His miracle working power. I also strongly believe that God wants us to use that mustard seed of faith that He has given us , to work along with Him, to co-operate with Him to make His plans establish on this earth for His glory. It’s God that puts that dream , that desire in your heart that you have right now and probably He has confirmed that through a prophecy. It’s time to trust His word and set into action

God has that wonderful job for you. But He needs you to use that God given talents in your interview from your end so He can sprinkle His favour for the best outcome. God will heal you but He needs you to go to the doctor and have your medication. Of course, if God has promised you a certain ministry, you need to equip yourself in that by studying and learning in that area.

My prayer for you today is that May this day be a day of ‘faith filled with action’ for you.

May you find that little mustard seed of faith that God put in your heart and put that faith to action TODAY

Because you’re not yet taking God seriously,” said Jesus. “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, ‘Move!’ and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.”

Lent – Day 14 – RESIST the devil and FLEE to GOD

The Bible gives us many valuable examples on dealing with temptation. Lessons that apply to our practical life and very relevant for our day-to-day lives

One of my favourite scriptures that I stand upon, when I am battling negative thoughts and doubts that play up with my mind is James 4:7

 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you- James 4:7

What we need to note here is that some of these negative thoughts and doubts don’t even exist in our real minds. They just pop up out of nowhere and start taking away your peace for no apparent reason. Such thoughts from the devil captivate us and bind us so if trapped we don’t think of a way out but rather we sit there meditating on that destructive thinking and feel helpless / hopeless for ourselves, drowning in a pool of self pity and despair

When was Jesus led by the spirit  in the wilderness to be tempted and tested by the devil. When Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights and while he was still hungry, the devil tried to tempt Him to use His power to turn the stones into bread

 If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread – Matt 4:3

Jesus resisted the Devil with the Word of God. He replied

“It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God – Matt 4:4

The devil did not want to give up. The devil took Him to the highest point of the temple in the Holy city and tempted Jesus to test the promises of God, by saying

If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
  and they will lift you up in their hands,
  so that you will not strike your foot against a stone – Matt 4:6

Jesus confronted the devil again with the Word of God. He replied

It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test’ Matt 4:7

The devil wanted to give one final try this time before accepting defeat

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”- Matt 4:8

This time again, Jesus stood strong with the Word of God against the devil. He replied

 “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only – Matt 4:10

This time around, the devil left Jesus alone , and the angels came and attended Him

When trapped in a net of temptation, the first armour to our rescue is the Word of God. The devil is a liar and he needs to confronted with the TRUTH that is the WORD OF GOD.

Anyone can know the Word of God, even the devil knows Jesus and knows the Word of God enough to tempt Him, even Him who created the Word. What is really important here is the right interpretation of the Word of God and the proper application of it in our day-to-day lives. The Word of God cannot be twisted and re-told for want of attraction of a bunch of audience or just to make it sound more interesting. Word of God is true and interesting in itself. There is no editing required.

When temptation sends you an invitation at your door step, RESIST him and FLEE to GOD.

My prayer for you today is for you is from Ephesians 6:10-18, for you to realise that there is evil out in the word and that evil can be defeated if we stand against it with the Word of God and all that He has empowered us with to combat the devil.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.  Ephesians 6:10-18

Lent – Day 11 – The CERTAIN CHRIST in an UNCERTAIN WORLD

Human heart is so unpredictable. No wonder the Bible tells us to guard our hearts as from it flows everything in our life

Above all else, guard your heart

for everything you do flows from it

Proverbs 4:23

In an uncontrolled mind, feelings take precedence over our heart. When it comes to our spiritual walk with God, our gratitude towards God should not be based JUST on what He has or will do for us but rather on His character and what He has already done for us. God’s character or the very existence of God does not change just because you feel a certain way about God. God is God.

God is THE-GREAT-I-AM

13 Then Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the People of Israel and I tell them, ‘The God of your fathers sent me to you’; and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What do I tell them?”

14 God said to Moses, “I-AM-WHO-I-AM. Tell the People of Israel, ‘I-AM sent me to you.’”

Exodus 3:13-14

Through Jesus our lives came to existence on this earth and through our belief in Him will our lives be taken to eternity. He is the alpha and the omega

 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

Revelations 22:13

Jesus is our promised Messiah, our resurrected King , the sacrificed sinless lamb and the victorious son who obeyed His father to the feet of death. When Jesus died that horrific death on the Cross , He thought of you and me.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who [a]is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelations 1:8

As mere humans, we all have our own weaknesses. Sometimes, intentionally or unintentionally , we base our faith towards God based on our circumstances, our happenings in life , the situations in the world and sometimes answered / unanswered prayers. Fortunately God doesn’t not change along with our thinking or feelings. The Bible says that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. When we praise God for who He is or when we get angry at God when things are not happening the way we wanted or when we wonder where God is when there is so much injustice happening to innocent lives, GOD IS STILL THE SAME LOVING FATHER. He is STILL the same loving, caring, protecting, guiding, leading, healing and delivering Father towards all that trusts in and calls on His name.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever

Hebrews 13:8

When we learn to trust God through the lens of His beautiful character, His unconditional love and unfailing faithfulness will shine through.

The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love Psalm 145:8

“The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Exodus 34:6-7

My prayer for you today is from Philippians 4:6-7

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Lent – Day 10 – Gospel in a Nutshell

Jesus came to the world to die for our sins. Death has to be defeated on the Cross so you and I can have an eternal life. Jesus rose again after 3 days thus offering the humanity an opportunity to live an eternal life. Anyone that believes in God , God gives them the right to be called His children and partake in the eternal life.

John 3:16 gives the message of the Bible in a nutshell

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

John 3:16

There was a man called Saul in the Bible, who initially persecuted Christians. He was the one that lead a major persecution against Christians in Jerusalem. On the road to Damascus, Saul made a miraculous turnaround which is recorded in the Bible in the Book of Acts.He witnessed the Christ  he was persecuting and his life was never  the same. He became the chosen vessel of God to proclaim His good news to the nations around the world. He became knows as Paul after his conversion to Christ and his life  was transformed for the glory of God. God’s love is transformational and life changing for good.

Below is what Paul preached about the gospel to the ends of the world.

Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters,[a] of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.[b]

I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

God’ love is so deep to reach you even in your deepest valleys and His love is so strong to deliver you even from the impossible of the impossible. His love for you stretches above the skies and beyond the seas. He promises to be with you to the very end of age. There can be no friend like Jesus that you can gain on this earth and He extends His love to you today. All you need is to RECEIVE His unconditional love for you to experience it

How ? BY BELIEVING IN HIM

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is LORD,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10: 9 -10

My prayer for you today my friend is that you will open your heart to receive His love. My deepest desire is for you to taste and see that the Lord is good. May this be a day of resurrection in your lives. The choice is yours ! May you choose the Heavens above and let Him shine through your lives

Lent – Day 9 – The ‘PEEK A BOO ‘ Game

My 4 year old daughter came up to me and said ” Momma, I am going to show you a magic trick but you need to close your eyes for a second “. She had a rice cracker in her hand and she said she was going to make it disappear by the time I opened my eyes.

So here I sit listening to my 4 year old’s instructions, closing my eyes and waiting for her to tell me to open my eyes. I heard my daughter eating the rice crackers and I told her ” Hannah, I hear you eating the rice crackers ” .

Her reply was so funny that I had to laugh out aloud. She said ” Momma, you have to pretend as if you don’t hear anything. That’s my magic “

So there we went again repeating the whole thing over, but this time I pretended that I didn’t hear any of that noise that came from her eating them. Then she says ” Open your eyes, Peek a Boo – look the crackers have disappeared ” and continues to ask me ” Do you like my magic trick ?  “

She is too gorgeous for me to tell her the actual truth or a long explanation so I just responded ” Wow, how did you do that ? ” . Little does she know that Momma is watching all her moves including eating her crackers. I love her so much that sometimes I let her get away with things like this.

Sometimes we play this PEEK A BOO game with God.  We try to do our own things in our own way and try to convince God that our way is either the right way or the best. We actually pretend and live in a delusion state that we can control our lives and manage our lives all by ourselves. Some people even think that they don’t need a God or even worse they firmly believe that Jesus is a myth. But God is not a myth. Just because someone feels a certain way about something, doesn’t change the very existence of that thing

Billy Graham, one of the most faithful servant of the Lord was welcomed Home into the presence of Jesus today. He spent seven decades of spreading the gospel to more than 200 million people in 185 countries in the world.

In the summer of 2015 at his “Final Crusade” Graham said the below

Billy Graham encourages us to come to God as we are without any pretence.

In God’s economy, you must go down into the valley of grief before you can scale the heights of spiritual glory. You must become tired and weary of living alone before you seek and find the fellowship of Christ. You must come to the end of “self” before you can begin to live. The happiest day of my life was when I realized that my own ability, my own goodness, and my own morality were insufficient in the sight of God. I am not exaggerating when I say that my mourning was turned to joy, and my sighing into singing. Happy are they that mourn for the inadequacy of self, for they shall be comforted with the sufficiency of God.

Today is a call out in the open. Today is a bold call to wake up from the pretend sleep and trying to put on a show that everything is alright . Today is THE day to STOP the PEEK A BOO game we have been playing with God. Today is the day of salvation, where we turn our hearts to repentance and call on the Lord to save us and set us FREE

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!”

Lent – Day 8 – Let Him BREW your life

As I was driving today and praying about the devotion tonight, I had the word BREW pop in my mind.  By the time I drove back home, I knew exactly what tonight’s post will be about ! I absolutely love the way God speaks words into my heart !

I am a big fan of a freshly brewed coffee. Just enough for me to refresh my tired mind and boost my day ahead. Or should I say that is what gets me out of bed everyday morning.

To brew a classic cup of coffee, one needs to master a few fundamentals to perfect the technique. According to an article published by the National Coffee Association How to Brew a Coffee, you first need to get the brewing essentials right like the equipment, the beans, freshness, the grind, the water, coffee-water ratio, water temperature and most importantly the brewing time, which is an important flavour factor.

For a coffee to reach its perfect flavour and colour, it needed to be left to brew. It has to go through a series of defined processes, for the desired outcome. Research proves that if a coffee is over- extracted ( the brew time is too long ) or under – extracted ( the brew is too short ) , the very essence of coffee is lost

When God destined our lives on this earth, He set up a ‘brewing ‘ stage for each of our lives. Everyone’s ‘brewing ‘ stage totally different and uniquely varying to everyone else’s. Those ‘brewing’ stages include stages of yearning for God, learning about God and growing in God. Those ‘brewing’ stages set us up developmentally in what God has planned for our lives. Those’ brewing’ stages teach us the virtue of patience and the importance of waiting in His presence. Those ‘brewing’ stages bring us one step closer to God and bring us a revelation of who God really is

Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. Psalm 139:16

The ‘brewing’ stage of God in Joseph’s life setup him for a greater purpose that God destined for his life. Joseph did not allow the length of his ‘brewing’ stage tamper with his God’s love for Him and his God given dreams. He was steadfast in God’s faithfulness to him and persevered trusting in His grace and mercy. And eventually Joseph’s ‘brewing’ stage came to an end, with a sweet aroma of God’s goodness and unfailing plans being proclaimed to the ends of the earth.
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Gen 50:20
You might be going through a ‘brewing’ stage in your life, where things are super slow and situations seem impossible. My encouragement for you today is to HANG ON to that ‘brewing’ stage that God has placed in your life right now,  for at the end of it is your BREAKTHROUGH. Make sure you add the right ingredients during that stage, Word of God and fellowship with God for your life to be a sweet aroma to the Lord.
Let your life BREW in Him , with the Hope and Blessed Assurance that He will work all things for good
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
My Prayer for you is as you wait for Him and on Him patiently as He BREWS your life, May every promise of God you are clinging onto speak life into your situation. May He bring breakthrough in your situation like you have never seen before. May He reveal to you the depths of His unconditional love for you

Lent – Day 7 – Rooted In His Love

joy of the Lord

It’s a very common usual thing  for us to feel happy when something good happens to us and sad or discouraged when things don’t happen the way we wanted or expected. These feelings of happiness and being sad are triggered by our life circumstances or happenings.

The Bible talks about a joy that is not dependent on any situation or person in our lives, THE JOY OF THE LORD

The Joy of the Lord is your strength – Nehemiah 8:10

Wait , what does that mean ? Let’s explore that a little bit

We can rejoice in the joy of the Lord when we are rooted in His love. We can be partakers of God’s joy when we REALLY KNOW who God is and believe in His sovereignty. The joy of the Lord comes naturally to a Christian who has  personal relationship with His God the Father . That’s why we see some people not shaken in the natural realm even when terrible things happen to them. They trust God for their life completely,  they hold onto the promises of God in those tough times and go on with their lives with the blessed assurance that Jesus will never leave them or forsake them or fail them

I would just like to share a bit of personal testimony here.Reflecting back, 4 years ago I was dealing with a separation that ended in divorce. Along with the trauma of whatever that happened while I was a Christian, I was also a first time mom to a 3 month old. I had so many questions on why I had to face a divorce when I was still a Christian. I wondered what will happen to me and my child now. My heart was gripped with fear and my mind had a thousand questions to deal with, in addition to my sleep deprivation and exhaustion from having a newborn baby , having to find a place to live and returning to work to make a living for both of us.

I definitely was not happy with my circumstances but the joy of the Lord that I had in me gave me the hope to hang on, the strength to stand up and the courage to move on.  I was able to build myself up again in-spite of the numerous challenges I had to deal with of being a single mom. The doctrine became a life experience for me and became my source of strength for my life. I was and am so very  grateful that I had God in my life then and now. Else honestly I am not sure where my life would have been. Probably it might have taken a different path.

This lent season we might be expectantly looking to God for answered prayers. We might be crying out to God like David

“How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?” Psalm 13

He asks God ‘ How long ‘ 4 times in this Psalm. But at the end of the Psalm, He shifts his focus from his sorrow to his trust in the Lord and His salvation

My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me” Psalm 13: 5-6  

David was tempted to drift towards his sorrow based on his feelings and circumstances. But he was quick enough to re-focus his attention on the Lord , which is his true source of strength. My encouragement for you is to find your joy in Him. When we do that, it’s like a package,  along with the joy comes your yearning to spend time with Him, along with that comes His wisdom to handle your mountains and along with that comes the contentment which is a great gain in the Heavenly realm

My prayer for you today is Col 2:7

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
