Overcoming Task Related Stress

‘ Lord , I have so much to do but got only very little time . What do I do ?’

Do you relate to this overwhelming feeling? When you have so much to do and don’t know where to start. And as time passes, it starts overwhelming you as your daily tasks list just does not come down.

As a busy working parent of a nearly four year old toddler, keeping up with my ever changing IT career through constant studying, following my passion of serving in church, you can only imagine the length of my to-do list. I seem to have so many things on my to-do list and I must admit sometimes I just procrastinate that eventually I end up doing it just before the deadline but the stress involved leading upto the task completion is just not worth it

I love it that God is not just interested in my spiritual life, how I live, love and serve others.. He is also interested in the little things of my life and is ready to help me whenever I ask

2 days back I was a bit overwhelmed with my to-do list. To be precise I came home after work, spent about 2 quality hours with my daughter before putting her to bed. I had some church work to be completed that I have left it a bit long. I also had some final touch of my study assignments to be submitted and I had about 2 hours to complete them ALL before I hit bed to get some decent sleep for another long day at work the next day. I cannot leave my pending tasks for another day as I have already gotten past the deadline. Clearly I was a bit overwhelmed.

I looked up and a casual conversation with God began.

‘ Lord , I have so much to do but got only very little time . What do I do ?’

I love it that God understand me so well. Being a person of illustration myself, He speaks to me mostly through pictures.

God showed a hungry me on one side. He then showed me a picture of a big plate, a plate full of food including starters, main and desert all in one place. The food plate was HUGE. I felt Him saying ‘eat’ and me in that picture I ate the starters first, the main next and then finally the desert. I was well fed. God asked me’ why didn’t you eat the reverse way… the desert first, the starters second and finally the main ?’ . I told God’ If I do that, my tummy would hurt and I would still end up being hungry after some time as the order of my eating is wrong’

I felt God telling me it’s exactly the same way with you accomplishing your daily tasks. If you keep doing things without organising and without order, eventually you have to give into the spirit of tiredness and frustration as nothing is going to get done at the end of the day.

God cares even about our simple silly to-do lists and I believe He wants us to think strategically to get them done without burning all our energy into it
Through this experience, I put together 4 P’s that will be help to accomplish any task . These helped me and I hope it helps you too.
1. PRAY ➡️ ✝️🙏🏻for strength and wisdom to accomplish the to-do list. With Him all things are possible

2. PREPARE ➡️ 📝🗒 The to-do list , visual listing of things to do helps process things quicker in your brain giving a reality check

4. PRIORITISE ➡️ 📌The entire list , task by task, some tasks might not be needed to be addressed immediately

5. PLAN ➡️ 🕟 Choose the best part of your day to knock them down

Now my friends, set into action with this promise from God. Declare it over yourselves and don’t let stress take away your peace. Invest that time and energy into your family and things that you love❤️

Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Dear God,

Thank You for taking interest in even the little things of life and teaching me to live a stress free life. I pray for strength to do all my tasks today and wisdom to prioritise them.

In Jesus Name Amen

Stay Blessed In Him💞

  1. Great tips. I believe you are right – God really does care about our to-do lists and the order and organization that we put toward our daily tasks.

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might;” Ecclesiastes 9:10

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31

Something that helps me: I like to try to enjoy doing the things I have to do – laundry, housecleaning, homeschooling my son, tutoring, etc. I like to slow down and enjoy the journey, instead of thinking that I have to find down-time every day to veg out or surf FaceBook. Once I let go of the need to watch TV or be on social media, I discovered that I truly do enjoy the other aspects of my life. Me-time right now consists of homemaking and writing.

When I do have things I’m not looking forward to, I try to do them first and get them out of the way. That enables me to enjoy the rest of my day, even if I’m still working.

One more thing: every once in a while, I’ll take stock of the time-consuming things in my life and purge, even if that means giving up a Sunday School class for a while (I just did this). Sometimes it’s just ridiculous the amount of guilt we feel if we aren’t doing everything we think we can possibly squeeze into our lives.

Don’t forget the sabbath! God set aside a special day for us to rest from our labors. He knows that rest is important, even if we resist the idea.

    1. @amyleebell that’s so true isn’t it !! Sometimes we get so serious with God that we forget to take small things to Him ! I love your Bible references ! Totally with you on the TV time and the face book time and life is such a breeze when we get things like this out of our way ! It’s these little foxes that spoil the vine taking away a mom’s quality time with family !! I love your tip of stocking things that take up your time and purging them .. I think I gotta try that as sometimes we get a feeling that we just don’t have time for everything or anything and feels like we are in a ‘rush’ all the time.. thanks so much for your encouraging words and tip sharing 😊 ! And Sabbath am totally up for it !! Sundays are no longer a sabbath for me as I am involved in Sunday school too so have taken time off work on Fridays !! All momma’s need some quiet ME time isn’t it ?😊
